5G CPE is one kind of 5G terminal equipment, it receives 5G signal from base station then convert it into WiFi or wired signal, allowing more local devices such as mobile phones, tablets and computers etc. to access Internet. The full name of CPE is Customer Premise Equipment which is commonly referred to as “customer terminal equipment” in the industry. Actually premise means “premise or assumption”, more accurate translation should be “customer front-end device”, front-end means always in front of the terminal device. 5G CPE in the market is similar to the “optical modem” function of fiber broadband. ‘Light Cat’ is a type of CPE in fact, the difference between “optical modem” and 5G CPE is that “optical modem” is connect to operator’s optical access network, but 5G CPE is connect to 5G base station. 5G CPE products use same or similar 5G chips as 5G smartphones, with stronger 5G connectivity, support SA/NSA networks and compatible with 4G/5G signal. 5G CPE is comparable to “optical modem” regarding the speed, but 5G CPE is an upgrade version of “optical modem” as it with advantages in mobility and flexibility. 5G CPE not only enhances WiFi signal, but also support secondary forwarding of mobile phone signal.
